The figures of violence are not violent.

They represent the possibility of change and transcending difference.

It's just that the most extreme member of a series best represents the entire series.

That's why literature and every figure of speech use violence to mean change and transcending.

What's to be done about the fertile ground for pundit idiocy is the question.

Probably ridicule.
